Heart Truth Fashion Show

 Back in September Bellissima took part in a charity fashion show called The Heart Truth, which raised funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The show started out with locally designed red dresses and suits. The show continued with a presentation of some of Calgary's top brands and retailers, including Bellissima!  Below are some photos from the Bellissima show as well as the locally designed red dresses. Joseph Ribkoff Trunk Shows

Parkluxe 2012

PARKLUXE, a luxury fashion show presenting local Alberta designers took place in Calgary on October 6th at the Hyatt Auto Gallery Mercedes Benz. The night included runway shows from Caitlin Power, Nicole Campre, Lauren Bagliore and Anne B. Accessories. This was the second year Anne B. Accessories took part in this luxury fashion show, and her collection did not disappoint. Check out the video below to see Anne. B Accessories on the runway! Love the collection? You can find Anne. Joseph Ribkoff Spring/Summer 2013 Preview

In mid-September Bellissima hosted a Joseph Ribkoff trunk show. The trunk show was a great opportunity to preview what Joseph Ribkoff has in store for their Spring/Summer 2013 collection. Customers had the chance to browse the collection and pre-order items. The Joseph Ribkoff Spring/Summer 2013 collection is feminine and elegant,  full of bright and vibrant colours, textures, and fun prints. If you missed out on the preview don't worry, Bellissima will be carrying several of these pieces come next spring!

The Heart Truth Fashion Show made possible by Sophia Models International, debuts in Calgary on Sept. 22, 2012. Canada′s finest celebrities and designers will be showcased at the luxurious Eighth Avenue Place. The Red Dress is the official symbol of The Heart Truth campaign of The Heart and Stroke Foundation and represents women's courage, passion and their power for change as they ′share the truth′ with others and raise awareness of the importance of heart health.

The Heart Truth website gives you all the information you need to evaluate your risks, adopt a healthier lifestyle and find out how to become a Heart Truth leader in your community. You’ll also find stories of the courageous women living with heart disease and stroke and a caring online community to inspire your own heart-healthy efforts. We invite you to explore, learn and get involved!

The Heart and Stroke Foundation launched The Heart Truth campaign on February 4, 2008. The campaign targets women over the age of 40, and across ethnicities and backgrounds through education and outreach activities.

A collaborative fashion show in support of The Heart and Stroke Foundation′s The Heart Truth campaign. Sixty per cent of the proceeds raised will go towards research and awareness about the risk of heart desease and stroke, a leading cause of death in all Canadian women.

Along with the red dress show, there will be a fall/winter fashion show from Chinook Centre, including clothing from Bellissima!

Miss America Visits Bellissima

Miss America, Laura Kaeppeler, recently stopped by our Chinook Centre location in Calgary.  Customers and staff alike had a chance to chat with Laura, snap a photo and grab an autograph. A big Thanks to Joseph Ribkoff for sponsoring Laura's visit.

Miss America at Chinook Centre!

Exciting news Bellissima customers! Miss America, Laura Kaeppeler, will be visiting Calgary's Chinook Centre location Friday July 6th from 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm. 

Laura is the 2012 winner of the Miss America pageant, representing Wisconsin. Laura is  passionate about children's advocacy and is the National Goodwill Ambassador for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

The new face of our upcoming S/S 2012 Bellissima campaign, Casar Jacobson, loved one of the dresses from the S/S shoot so much that she just had to have it. Here Casar is wearing one of our great new Bellissima dresses as she stepped into her role as Miss Calgary at the Tourism Calgary Open House last night! This gorgeous dress is perfect for those occasions when you're rubbing shoulders with the mayor of Calgary and the president of Air Canada.

I Love a company that partners the ideals and desire to "give back" with beautiful things such as great fashion.

Philanthropy is the desire to improve the lives of others through monetary or physical donations and other charitable actions.

As most of us know October is Breast Cancer awareness month, and Bellissima has been involved as an organization to try and do our part and "give back".

This year a few of our Vancouver stores worked on raising over $3800.00 through silent auctions and a portion of their sales for the day.

We got our customers involved through a calling campaign to invite them to come down and support this fundraiser.....many thanks to all of you.

I would also like to say thank you to all our managers, staff and local merchants that have so generously donated to this cause as well as to our head office for their support.

Blogger of the month: Introducing Ashley of Lions Lace and Lattes

Some exciting news for Bellissima this week. As we are coming into fall we decided to put a little spin on things, give you more perspective and let our blog be the platform for other bloggers around the country to share their Bellissima fashion inspirations. The first blogger we chose to feature on the site is Ashley Pettigrew, her blog, Lions Lace and Lattes has gotten much recognition in Calgary as well as on the International scale. She has just come back from the Independent Fashion Bloggers conference in New York City during Fashion Week (if you remember Bellissima was at that conference last year). Ashley's style is classic but trendy with a little hippie chic twist. We love the way she balances her professional life with her online persona. Look forward to seeing more of Ashley in October & November on the Bellissima Fashions blog along with some exciting online giveaways. Stay tuned.

On view for the first time in Canada, this exhibition reveals the integral role of costume design in creating unforgettable screen characters. "When actors put on those clothes that is when the character comes alive," says Nancy Lawson exhibition co-curator. More than 30 actors are represented from some 25 films which depict five centuries of history, drama and comedy. Some of the films represented include a refreshing take on the classic Cinderella fairy tale (Angela Houston Ever After); seventeenth century Virginia (Colin Farrell, The New World); the eighteenth-century England of the aristocracy (Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes, The Duchess); the first voyage in the Pirates adventure trilogy (Johnny Depp, The Pirates of the Caribbean; Curse of the Black Pearl); the fantastic and opulent nineteenth-century Paris (Emmy Rossum, The Phantom of the Opera) the story of Peter Pan (Kate Winslet, Finding Neverland) and the new adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude LawSherlock Holmes).


Go ahead and squeal — these costumes have touched the very skin of stars such as Johnny Depp and Natalie Portman. In fact, the exhibition reads like a textile-based "who's who" of Hollywood — lanky Nicole Kidman next to tiny Renee Zellweger next to curvy Scarlett Johansson.


Cut! also allows the viewer to appreciate the fine details of costumes that often only appear fleetingly in the final film. The attention to detail in the research, design and creation of these film costumes crosses the line from craft to couture.


Fashion and film become fine art in this exciting exhibition. All 43 costumes were made by the renowned British costumer, Cosprop Ltd., and many have won major film awards for costume design, including the coveted Oscar™.
